Fragile - Official Score by Yana Couto

“Fragile” is the title of a piece composed by Polish composer and pianist Yana Couto. It comes from the soundtrack of the latest short film “Fragile”, directed by Rafał Łysak, which premiered on December 17 at the Atlantic cinema in Warsaw and will take part in numerous film festivals in Poland and abroad in 2026.

The piece is a moving, meditative record of a spiritual journey toward a place where we feel safe, connected with ourselves, and secure in our relationships with others. It is a song that can become the soundtrack to any calm morning, meditation, walk with a dog, or journey — including those taken inward. It is quiet music about the courage to be oneself, about allowing fragility and tenderness, and, above all, authenticity.

On the creation of the soundtrack and the piece “Fragile”

“I met Rafał at the Kraków Film Festival in June this year after watching one of his documentary films, ‘Casting’. In the way he told the stories of his characters, I felt a great deal of sensitivity and gentleness. I knew I would want to work with him, and literally a month after our meeting, such an opportunity arose with his first narrative film. It was a very interesting process — I actually began working on the music based on his script, and I very much wanted the delicacy, fragility, and quiet courage of the main character to resonate in the music as precisely as possible,” says Yany Couto.

The film’s main theme is a delicate, fragile story built on the sound of a prepared piano and the spaces “between” the notes. The second piece from the soundtrack, titled “Touching” (available on January 9, 2026), also features string instruments, which add dramatic tension, create a kind of contrast, and reflect the emotions of the main character who, while searching for himself, is also filled with uncertainty. This mix of emotions — sensitivity, courage, and unease — felt deeply fascinating to me, and the search for the right sound, supported by Rafał’s thoughtful suggestions and ideas, became a very revealing creative process.
